About Vijaya Medical Centre
( First Diagnostic Centre In Coastal Andhra To Get ISO 9001-2000 Certificate )
Visakhapatnam is rated as one of the fastest growing cities in India. The present population is 30 Lakhs. It is the city for tertiary medical care for the districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari. There is a large inflow of patients from South Orissa and Madhya Pradesh in the last 5 years with rapid development in medical facilities. Health care is predicted to be one of the core areas of growth in the next decade with a minimum of 10 % annual growth. Visakhapatnam is being projected and promoted as tourism capital of Andhra Pradesh and infrastructure for information technology, Pharma and Biotechnology is being developed at rapid pace. The city would further grow with the completion of international airport, second seaport and with the increase in the affordable class (28% to 43%), shift to private medicare, insurance based practice and trend of increase in medical related spending to reach the levels in developed South East Asian countries by the end of the decade. Private health care spending in India is 60 % at 69,000 crores and is projected to reach 1,56,000 crores by 2012.

There would be significant increase in the demand for high quality diagnostic medial facilities, keeping these changing trends in mind we are investing in building a world class diagnostic facility in Visakhapatnam.
VIJAYA MEDICAL CENTRE has been a pioneer medical diagnostic institution in the state since its inception in 1985 by a team of doctors from the city with a vision to provide all medical diagnostic services under a single roof for the first time in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

It was started by Dr. Madan Kalagara MD and Dr. Suman Kalagara MD with a 500 MA X-RAY Plant, Ultrasound, Biochemestry, Threadmill, Doppler and a Hemodialysis unit. Threadmill, Hemodyalisis and Vascular lab were introduced for the first time in this city there by setting a trend and opening up new avenues in diagnostic medicine.

Dr. Madan Kalagara MD and Dr. Suman Kalagara MD who had finished their Post graduations in Pathology and Radiology (PGIMER) respectively with their untiring efforts contributed to the growth and recognition in a short span of time.  Dr. M.T. V. V. Satyanarayana and Dr. K. Suryanarayana with their technical expertise in Lab and Hospital Administration complete the Vijaya Team. In addition, there are three full time consultants in Radiology from reputed central universities.

Vijaya Medical Centre has been instrumental in bringing in new technologies to this region of the country. The first Colour Doppler in the city was installed in 1996 followed by the first Spiral CT in Andhra Pradesh. A second Colour Doppler was installed in 1998 followed by 0.2 Tesla MRI in 1999. A high end Color doppler from Toshiba PowerVision 6000 was installed in 2001.

2002 was the year when 4D Ultrasound and Digital X-ray were installed for the first time in South and East India and Andhra Pradesh respectively. The conventional x-ray machine was replaced by a sophisticated 100 MA Radiography and Flouroscopy X-Ray Plant, A 300 MA and a 100 MA X-Ray plant which are linked to Digital X-ray System (Computed Radiography).

Digital Mammography and Bone densitometry were installed at the same time to strengthen the facility for imaging of Women.

Furthermore advances in the field of Laboratory Medicine were dealt with by the acquisition of Fully Automated Random Access Biochemestry Analysers, Automated Chemiluminescence Systems, Laser Flow Cytometer Based Hematology Analysers. The introduction of molecular Biology techniques like PCR paved the way into the new era of Molecular Diagnostics. Similarly acquisition of Digital Microscopy and Fluorescent Microscopy enhanced the existing diagnostic capabilities in the field of Anatomical Pathology.

In the year 2003, Vijaya Medical Centre revolutionized the field of diagnostic radiology by installing a 16 slice Multidetector CT, the first installation in the entire South and East India, the fourth in India. This MDCT is complemented with a Dual Head Contrast Injector and UPS Power backup that supports the entire Machine, the only Diagnostic Centre to have such facilities.

A 1.5 Tesla MRI with Pulse Oximeter was also installed to replace the old 0.2 Tesla MRI, being the first centre to be equipped with a Pulse Oximeter compatible with MRI.

All this equipment is now housed in a spacious owned new Multistoried Diagnostic Complex in an area of over 20,000 Sq ft, the largest Diagnostic Centre in India with centralized air conditioning, multiple patient hold areas and great ambience. The new diagnostic centre has an entire floor of 5,000 Sq ft for further expansion.

Vijaya Medical Centre is now poised to achieve global recognition with their constant pursuit for quality services and upgradation of technology.
